The wedding planner.

Planning a wedding can bring out a lot of emotions in a bride.

Excitement is an obvious one. And Sarah is most definitely excited. But as with planning any major event, there is stress involved. There are so many decisions to make, and each decision breeds more decisions. It's like a hydra -- a head cut off sprouts two, then four, then more, and each head is waving around a bridal magazine in its sharp teeth.

It's technically her second wedding, but it's Daniel's first. He's been so busy with paperwork that she doesn't want to bother him with questions. She remembers her mother helping her with her first wedding, and that causes an ache in her heart that she thought had healed over by now.

One afternoon, feeling a little overwhelmed, she knocks on Harley's door. She needs some help from her maid-of-honor.

After a moment, Harley answers the door. She greets Sarah with a warm smile. "Hello Sarah. What brings you to my door today?"
Jan. 28th, 2010 01:44 am (UTC)
Sarah smiles, despite looking a little frazzled around the edges. "Hi, Harley." She pulls out a binder out from under her arm and shows it to the other woman. On the cover is a smiling bride. "This. I need help. I've been planning, but there's still so much to do."

Surprised by the book in her arms, Harley chuckles. "Wedding planning? Okay. One step at a time. What seems to be your most urgent dilemma?"
Jan. 28th, 2010 01:59 am (UTC)
Sarah gives a short sigh, opening the binder and flipping through the pages as though irritated with them. "I honestly don't know at this point... these magazines make everything sound so important. Do you know how many bridal shops the City has? Far too many, in my opinion. And that doesn't include everything on the internet, and the Nexus, other worlds..." Too many choices. That's Sarah's problem, at the moment. "I don't even have a wedding dress."
Jan. 28th, 2010 02:04 am (UTC)
With another chuckle, Harley guides Sarah to a seat on the couch. Then she gently removes the magazine from her hands, and does the unexpected, she rips it in half. "First things first, Sarah. None of the girls in that magazine are the ones who are getting married in this occasion. So... with all due respect to the writers and their suggestions... screw them."

"We need to take a breath... and then start with what you feel is the most important."
Jan. 28th, 2010 02:19 am (UTC)
"Wh--" Sarah startles at the magazine ripping and just stares at Harley, open-mouthed, for a few seconds. Then, slowly, she exhales, sinking against the couch and laughing. "Okay... okay. Fair enough."

After a few seconds, she replies, "The dress. I want to look beautiful for Daniel. I mean, the location is important, too, but that's something we need to decide together."
Jan. 28th, 2010 02:22 am (UTC)
"Personally the beach would be a beautiful place to be wed, if you and Daniel think it would be appropriate. It is close enough to your home, to have a place to change and handle gifts. But far enough away from prying eyes for Nexus guests."

"The dress... the dress. Okay. Would you rather be soft and alluring... fancy and elaborate... or sexy and stunning?" Harley is going to assume Sarah wants a white dress.
Jan. 28th, 2010 02:40 am (UTC)
"I think so, too," she admits. "I just worry that someone will notice something strange... I hate that everything is still a secret, sometimes."

Technically, Sarah is supposed to wear an ivory dress or another off-white shade, as this is her second wedding, but that should be easy enough to find. "Oh... I don't think I could pull off stunning," she says with a blush. "I'm not too keen on elaborate, either... but something elegant. That would be nice."
Jan. 28th, 2010 02:47 am (UTC)
"Just ask John to ensure no one will notice the beach. I am sure he could arrange it."

"Well I think you could pull off stunning, but maybe you should save that for the honeymoon bed." Harley winked.

"Elegant..." She studies Sarah for a moment. Then pulling out a piece of paper, she sketches something. (What she had designed her own costume). And then presents the sketch to Sarah. "This would work beautifully with your figure. It will accent your body, but still give you the glow of being a bride. And with your hair up... you will be even more beautiful than normal."
Jan. 28th, 2010 03:02 am (UTC)
Sarah frowns thoughtfully. "Maybe... his ability to do that isn't quite so refined... oh, unless you didn't mean literally. But... something like that might be possible. Kaa did something once so he could visit and no one would notice a giant snake in our backyard."

She blushes rather intensely at the compliment, but laughs all the same. She accepts the sketch and looks it over wonderingly. "Oh, Harley... that's a beautiful gown. Yes, something like that... it'd be considered quite modern, here, but it's so pretty."
Jan. 28th, 2010 03:08 am (UTC)
"Well not literally. But I am sure there is a way for others to avoid a certain part of the beach."

Harley grins brightly when Sarah praises the sketch. "And the nicest thing about that gown, is you could use your bridesmaid dresses color in the sash. And then tie it to the groomsmen tuxedos, with their vest colors."
Jan. 28th, 2010 03:21 am (UTC)
"That's true. Even Markus or Daniel could do that." It pays to be marrying the head bureaucrat of the City.

"That's true, I could." She beams. "Oh, Harley, you're brilliant."
Jan. 28th, 2010 03:23 am (UTC)
"Good ideas are what the maid of honor are there for!" Harley laughed. She relaxs slightly against the chair. "The next thing should be decorations that would be beach friendly."
Jan. 28th, 2010 03:42 am (UTC)
"Oh, how about those lovely paper lanterns... you know, the round ones that have a light inside." She adds with a small grin, "The weather won't be a problem, of course. It will likely be a perfect spring day."
Jan. 28th, 2010 01:06 pm (UTC)
"Ohhh those would look beautiful. And you could get the kind that has your flowers designed on it. What flowers will be your favorite... after all those are the best for you to carry?"
